Why We Create Eilik

“Technology and robots are advancing faster than ever: voice assistance, pattern recognition, service robots, educational robots, industrial robots...They are designed to provide information and do repetitive work to make our life more efficient. But something crucial is missing.” said the creator of Eilik, Shaw Yeung, and he continues “Eilik is a new kind of social robot that brings up a higher level of emotional social interactions between humans and robots. I have been dreaming of having a robot friend since I was a child, like R2-D2 from Star Wars, Rodney from Robots, Wall-E from the film, or Baymax from Big Hero 6. With this dream in mind, we build Eilik, and we hope Eilik can be your companion and bring endless fun to your desktop.” 

What Eilik Is

Eilik is a desktop companion robot with emotional intelligence to bring you endless fun launched by Energize Lab. It started with a crowdfunding campaign. Energize Lab first launched Eilik on Kickstarter on Nov 9, 2021. Fifty days later, Eilik was funded $760,000 by 4,000+ backers. After the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, Eilik moves to Indiegogo and it is 1,555% funded with 1,569 backers. On July 20, 2022, we launched another campaign on Campfire in Japan. Luckily, there were 2,285 Japanese backers supporting Eilik campaign in the end. 

Thanks to all the contributions from an amazing crowd of people, Energize Lab eventually manages to turn the conception of Eilik into reality. We hope Eilik is created to de-stress people in today's hectic lifestyle and make them raise a smile. 

Since starting a journey of crowdfunding from Kickstarter to Campfire, Eilik has earned a lot of recognition from the community. According to the comments on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and so on, many people are eager to have Eilik as a robotic friend or a special digital pet.

What Eilik Can Do

Owning a robotic friend means that you'll have a delightful means of entertainment. We hope our users and backers will spend the moment with the little robotic toy to ease your nerves when taking a break from study or work. 

You can also DIY and paint Eilik with your imagination, which will test your creativity and hands-on ability. The Eilik designed by you will look like an exclusive figma figure. If you want to surprise your kids or friends during the holidays, Eilik can be a special gift for them. The techno-style Eilik can also be a lively ornament to decorate a monotonous office or a classroom. It is great if Eilik at the desk can be an energy boost to the dull office day and school day. 

Eilik is composed of an OLED screen, a vibration motor, a vibration sensor, three touch sensors and four EM3 servos, with a small body size of 108×105×133mm and a weight of only 230g. Equipped with four EM3 servos that are exclusively designed, Eilik's arms and body are flexible and dexterous. There is one point that Eilik needs servos to perform actions, therefore it is normal to hear mechanical sounds from Eilik. As a rechargeable robot, Eilik comes with a USB-C port for daily charging. Besides, Eilik has a 450 mAh Li-po battery built into it that lasts for 1.5 hours while fully charged. When there is no interaction, Eilik will gradually fall asleep for battery-saving. Out of the box, it is not necessary to connect App, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.  

Eilik has three touch sensors on his head, belly, and bottom. He has a wide range of emotions that he will express naturally throughout the day based on the touch interactions with you. In addition, Eilik has lots of interesting things to do in his spare time, such as reading, fishing, and playing musical instruments. If putting Eilik together, they will recognize each other, play, and build friendships just like we do. 

Designed for entertainment and interaction, Eilik can also be your assistant and game player. Eilik is built with features and games including Countdown, Pomodoro Timer, Talking Toy, Monster Shooter, Fishing game, Dance to Music, Eilik Party, etc.

Behind Eilik's real-life expression, the team's in-house animation group is working hard to make Eilik more vivid and fun. Each act of Eilik requires sophisticated design and thousands of animations. More emotion systems, games and features of Eilik can be updated in the future to make Eilik a better bot for our users.
